We all knew a sequel was in the works when the cast were spotted back filming. Well this week, Imperial Coroner made what many fans have been wishing for, official, now that filming has wrapped. Not only are we getting a sequel, the original cast is reuniting to tackle a brand new investigation! And this time, the stakes are so much higher with the safety of the country threatened by foreign powers. Can our resident sleuths unravel the seemingly unrelated cases and connect the dots to a bigger threat?

Everyone’s Back
If you’ve yet to watch the first season, the series definitely deserves a place on your must-watch list especially if you’re a fan of historical mysteries. Once you’re hooked, the sequel will hopefully be available for you to binge over soon. *Fingers crossed*
But even if you’re not a fan of the genre, do give it a chance as the original’s solid, engaging plot and great production really made the characters shine when this was released in 2021. Despite not having any big names to draw in viewers, it held its own amongst the popular shows of the season and put the names of the cast on the map. And the best part is, they’re back with Wang Ziqi as Prince An, Su Xiaotong as Chu Chu, Yang Tingdong as Jing Yi and Zhao Yaoke as master swordswoman Leng Yue.

A Switch Up in Billing
It’s been three years since the original was released and now that the cast are a bit more “seasoned”, I dare say expectations are much higher. Interestingly, whereas Su Xiaotong had first billing in the original, Wang Ziqi is now the first name you’ll see.
Wang Ziqi in particular who had his beloved role role as Xiao Jinyu has seen considerable progress in his career, appearing in shows such as The Longest Promise, Chase the Truth where he appeared with his Imperial Coroner co-star Su Xiaotong, The First Shot with Johnny Huang Jingyu and reuniting with his Once We Get Married co-star Wang Yuwen in The Love You Give Me.
